Testimonials

"Alternative Vision's tour of the Omo Valley & Harar, led by Trevor Cole, was a visceral, informative and unforgettable experience for me as a young photographer. We visited and photographed eight different tribes over the course of the trip in the Omo.

All of these were very intimate experiences as we were only a small group of eight. We shot at peak times of day, early in the morning and late in the afternoon, which made for very naturally beautiful scenes to photograph.Apart from the experience and learning I received just by visiting each village every day, I also was able to educate myself about the art of photography.

Being around Trevor and other more experienced photographers in the group naturally allowed me to observe and ask questions about elements of the practice that I did not know before. I am walking away from this experience as a more confident and learned photographer. On top of that I have gleaned a unique perspective on indigenous cultures through my human interactions with the tribes of the Omo.

I very much recommend this tour to future aspiring photographers who have an interest in this subject. It is a powerful experience in more ways than one, for which I am very grateful to have played a part in."

"Your landscape photography weekend was the best decision I have made in a long time – a highly professional course in Dunfanaghy."

"Everything was exceptionally well organised and thought through. The ground crews on both trips were fantastic, going that extra mile to make sure that all the guests were well looked after. I'm still in awe at the delicious meals we had from each of the camp cooks.

Your relaxed style of leadership and flexibility to take advantage of unplanned photographic opportunities meant that we experienced far more than I had imagined possible – cultural and photographic experiences that I shan't forget. I learned so much about the indigenous peoples from both our guides and you.

I feel that my photography has improved exponentially, especially as you were happy to let me shadow you round the villages and camps. I have come home enriched from the cultural experiences and have a large number of images I am extremely proud of.

The month in Africa with you is the best photo trip experience I have had – it can be summed up as epic. I would have no hesitation in recommending your trips to anyone that asks.

"Our time with the tribes will forever be a life highlight and the skills acquired under the guidance of Trevor will be applied in future photo trips.

If you want to visit and photograph the tribes, go with someone who has been doing it with expertise for 20 years.

We will be forever grateful.

"A moment to express my deep appreciation to Alternative Visions and infinite gratitude to the special person behind this magnificent tour, Trevor Cole. He has allowed me to see what my eyes have never witnessed and to experience like never before.

With all the tribal souls we photographed during our trip, he gave deep context, story, knowledge, background depth and understanding of their life, history, culture, traditions and rituals.

A truly priceless and rich experience.

"This photography workshop was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience... so great I would love to do it again!

Trevor has a deep connection with Ethiopia and a wonderful local team on the ground that made me feel safe and welcome, even in the most remote places.

I would highly recommend this travel opportunity to anyone looking to experience tribal cultures and create some beautiful images.

Two weeks after the conclusion of our adventure in Angola the eight participants and some of the staff are actively communicating, sharing images, sharing memories, sparring, and laughing from their homes in five corners of the world. Why? Because it was a great tour, in so many ways. The rustic 10 days in a row camping experience seems to have brought this diverse but cohesive group closer than I could have expected. We ranged in age from 33 to 83 and had representation from each decade but as a group we were one and now we are making the adventure last by sharing photos and experiences mostly via WhatsApp. Thanks, Trevor Cole for a great time. The memories and images will last forever.
